Fall Season 2015

Dear Parents and Players,

As summer baseball begins winding down, it's time to start thinking about signing up for fall baseball.  This fall, as in years past, we will be running both Professionally Coached Travel teams and Recreational Babe Ruth teams.  When determining your child’s age in the fall we go by their age as of April 30, 2015 for players age 14 and up, while we use age as of April 30, 2016 for 13 year olds.  That means any player with a birth date of April 30, 2003 or before is eligible to play either advanced travel or Babe Ruth baseball while players born May 1, 2003 and after would be eligible to play youth travel or Little League baseball (a separate e-mail will go out regarding these teams).

Travel Teams:
All travel teams play a 21-24 game schedule on weekends only with the possibility of a short playoff at the end (weather permitting).  There will be a doubleheader either Saturday or Sunday and a single game on the other day.  There is generally two practices per week, one on the field and one at IST Baseball Headquarters where the team will do its hitting practice.  Additional practices are scheduled based on field availability.  The teams are professionally coached with parents serving administrative roles only.  I expect the season to start on September 5 or September 12 and end October 31 (8 regular season weekends of games plus a playoff weekend). Travel can be to locations up to 1 hour away although half our games are at home and the away games are generally within a half hour commute.

Below is a description of our travel programs.

13U Sandy Koufax:
Team Focus:  Orienting players to the 90-foot diamond and high school rules, teaching the players the fundamentals of the game, how to conduct themselves on a field and how to play winning baseball.
Head Coach:  Scott Carew (possibly 2 teams)
Eligible Players include players born from 5/1/2002 to 4/30/2003
Rosters:  The roster size will be approximately 13 players but in no case will we have more than 14 players on a team in order to maximize playing time.

14U Sandy Koufax:

Eligible Players include players born from 5/1/2001 to 4/30/2003

Recreational Babe Ruth Teams:
There are two age groups of Babe Ruth players.  The Prep Babe Ruth level includes players who will be 13 years old on April 30, 2016 and the Majors Babe Ruth level which includes players who will be 14, 15 or 16 on April 30, 2016.  The Prep and Majors teams play a 16 game schedule on weekends only.  There will be single games on both Saturday and Sunday.  There will also be one practice during the week.  The teams will be coached by professional coaches with parents helping.   I expect the season to start on September 12 and end October 31 (8 weekends of games).  We play against other towns that are generally within a half hour commute.  Half of our games are at home, though.  The fee is $500 for both the Prep and Majors Babe Ruth levels.

There are no tryouts for the prep and majors Babe Ruth teams.  All players who sign up by the registration deadline will be placed on a team provided we are able to make up reasonable sized teams.

The registration deadline for fall travel and Babe Ruth baseball is Sunday, August 23.  Please make sure to sign up by that date.
